What is IBPS?
The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) is a recruitment body which conducts various exams during the year for recruitment and placement of young graduates in public sector banks in India, other than the State Bank of India.
IBPS exams are conducted for recruitment of the Probationary Officers, Clerks, Office Assistants, Officers, Specialist Officers etc.
List of Participating Banks for Recruitment Through IBPS
Public sector Banks namely Allahabad Bank, Andhra Bank, Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra, Canara Bank, Central Bank of India, Corporation Bank, Dena Bank, IDBI Bank, Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Punjab National Bank, Punjab and Sind Bank, Syndicate Bank, UCO Bank, Union Bank of India, United Bank of India, Vijaya Bank. Apart from Public Sector Banks Private Banks, Co – operative Banks, Regional Rural Bank also participate in IBPS recruitment process. Sometimes EXIM Bank also participates for recruitment through IBPS.

Common Recruitment Process for Officers and Office Assistants in RRBs
Every year IBPS conducts Common Recruitment Process for Regional Rural Banks. IBPS conducts online examinations for Common Recruitment Process for Group “A”-Officers (Scale-I, II & III) and Group “B”-Office Assistant (Multipurpose).
Eligible candidates who are willing to join any of the Regional Rural Banks as Officer or Office Assistant (Multipurpose), is required to register for the Common Recruitment Process. The examination will be two tier i.e. the online examination will be held in two phases, preliminary and main.
For the posts of Office Assistant (Multi-purpose) there will not be any interview. For Officers those who will qualify main exam will subsequently be called for a Common Interview to be coordinated by the Nodal Regional Rural Banks with the help of NABARD and IBPS.
Common Recruitment Process for Probationary Officers / Management Trainees
Every year IBPS conducts online examination (Preliminary and Main) for selection of candidates for the posts of Probationary Officer/ Management Trainee in Participating Organisations.
The examination for the posts of PO/MT is a two tier exam followed by a common interview. Depending on the final vacancies to be filled in participating Banks during the financial year the candidates shortlisted will be provisionally allotted to one of the Participating Banks.
Common Recruitment Process for Clerical Cadre Posts
IBPS also conducts online examination (Preliminary and Main) for selection of personnel for Clerical cadre Posts in the Participating Organisations.
The examination is a two tier online examination which are Online Preliminary and Online Main Exams. For clerical cadre posts there is no provision for the interview.
Candidates who will qualify in Online Preliminary Examination and shortlisted will have to appear for Online Main Examination. Those who will qualify main exam will subsequently be shortlisted for final selection.
Common Recruitment Process for Specialist Officers Posts
IBPS every year conducts Common Recruitment Process (Preliminary and Main) for selection of candidates for Specialist Officer cadre posts. Specialist Officers posts are as under:-
- I.T. Officer (Scale-I)
- Agricultural Field Officer (Scale I)
- Rajbhasha Adhikari (Scale I)
- Law Officer (Scale I)
- HR/Personnel Officer (Scale I)
- Marketing Officer (Scale I)
The examination is of two tier i.e. preliminary and main. Candidates who will qualify in Online
Preliminary Examination and shortlisted will have to appear for Online Main Examination and shortlisted candidates in the main examination will subsequently be called for a Common Interview.
