IBPS PO Exam Pattern
Now let us discuss about the exam pattern step wise. First let us discuss about Preliminary Examination.
IBPS PO Exam Pattern – Preliminary (Phase I)
In the preliminary exam there will be 3 sections which are English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability. There will be 30 questions in English Language section and in Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability sections there will be 35 questions each. The sectional time limit will be 20 minutes for each section. Therefore there will be a total of 100 questions and the total time will be 60 minutes. Each question will be of 1 mark. Candidates have to qualify in each of the three tests by securing minimum cut-off marks to be decided by IBPS. Adequate number of candidates in each category as decided by IBPS depending upon requirements will be shortlisted for Online Main Examination.
IBPS PO Exam Pattern – Main (Phase I)
This year IBPS has changed the exam pattern for the mains exam. IBPS has increased the difficulty level of the main exam. The exam pattern is now very much similar to SBI PO mains exam of 2018. Therefore it is important for you to start preparing for the main exam right now otherwise you will not get much time for preparation.
In the main exam there will be 2 parts which are Objective Test (200 marks) and Descriptive Test (25 marks). Both the test will be through online mode only.
Objective Test (200 marks)
There will be 4 sections which are Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, General/Economy/Banking Awareness, English Language and Data Analysis & Interpretation. So you have to prepare current affairs, banking awareness and computer knowledge questions along with D.I., English Language, Data Analysis, Reasoning etc. The syllabus is very wide now.
- In Reasoning & Computer Aptitude section there will be 45 questions of 60 marks and the sectional timing will be 60 minutes.
- In General/Economy/Banking Awareness section there will be 40 questions of 40 marks and the sectional timing will be 35 minutes.
- English Language section there will be 35 questions of 40 marks and the sectional timing will be 40 minutes.
- In Data Analysis & Interpretation section there will be 35 questions of 60 marks and the sectional timing will be 45 minutes.
- In all there will be 155 questions of 200 marks and the total time will be 180 minutes.
Descriptive Test (50 marks)
The descriptive test will be of 30 minutes duration of 25 marks. You need to do Letter Writing & Essay. This test will be of qualifying nature.
Negative Marking: There will be negative marking for wrong answers marked in the Objective Tests both in preliminary and mains exams. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate one fourth or 0.25 of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty to arrive at corrected score. If a question is left blank, i.e. no answer is marked by the candidate; there will be no penalty for that question.
IBPS PO Exam Pattern– Interview (Phase III)
The Interview will be of 100 marks. The weightage (ratio) of Online Main Exam and interview will be 80:20 respectively. Final score or merit will be arrived at on the basis of scores obtained by the candidates in the Main Examination and Interview.
